Detailed Analysis of the Valve Maintenance Process: Key Steps for Restoring Safety and Efficiency
Date:2025-09-23 12:00:00 Author:Zhejiang Yonglian Valve Group Co., Ltd.

The general procedure for valve maintenance is a systematic and meticulous process, aiming to ensure that the valve can resume normal operation and meet safety and reliability requirements. The following is a general procedure for valve maintenance compiled based on multiple sources:

I. Preliminary Preparation

1. Safety preparations:

Ensure the safety of the operating environment, shut down the corresponding fluid systems, release the pressure, and take necessary safety measures, such as wearing protective equipment.

Cut off the power supply, gas supply, and hydraulic oil lines associated with the maintenance valve, and clean the gas lines, oil lines and components to ensure compliance with safety operation regulations.

2. Preparation of Tools and Materials:

Prepare the necessary repair tools and materials, such as wrenches, screwdrivers, gaskets, sealants, cleaning agents, etc., and ensure that these tools and materials are of good quality and suitable for the job.

3. Plan Development:

For large-diameter valves or important valves, an inspection plan should be compiled, an inspection process should be formulated, and it should be approved by relevant departments.

II. Fault Observation and Preliminary Inspection

1. Phenomenon Observation:

Observe any abnormal conditions of the valve during its opening, closing or adjustment process, such as leakage, jamming, vibration, etc.

2. Initial Inspection:

Check whether the appearance, sealing surfaces, connection parts, etc. of the valve are damaged, worn or loose.

Check whether the operating mechanism of the valve is flexible and whether the indication is accurate.

III. Professional Diagnosis and Maintenance Method Selection

1. Professional Diagnosis:

If the initial inspection fails to identify the cause of the fault, a professional diagnosis is required. Use professional testing tools and equipment to conduct a more in-depth inspection and analysis of the valve, in order to determine the specific cause and location of the fault.

2. Select the appropriate repair method:

Based on the fault diagnosis results, select the appropriate repair method. Common repair methods include replacing damaged components, repairing sealing surfaces, and adjusting the operating mechanism, etc.

IV. Disassembly and Repair

1. Disassembly of the valve:

According to the maintenance requirements, the relevant components of the valve need to be disassembled. During the disassembly process, it is necessary to pay attention to recording the positions and sequences of each component, so as to facilitate the subsequent assembly.

2. Cleaning and Inspection:

Use the appropriate cleaning agent and tools to remove impurities and dirt from the interior of the valve, ensuring its cleanliness and smooth operation.

Inspect the sealing surfaces and operating mechanisms of the valves to ensure they are in good condition.

3. Repair or replace components:

Based on the fault diagnosis results, repair or replace the damaged or worn-out components. Use the appropriate tools and materials, and carry out the repair or replacement work in accordance with the manufacturer's requirements.

V. Assembly and Testing

Reassemble the valve:

Reassemble the valve according to the positions and sequence recorded during disassembly. Ensure that all components are installed correctly and the connections are tight.

2. Manual operation test:

After the assembly is completed, the first step is to conduct a manual operation test. Manually open and close the valve to check if the operation is smooth and if the indication is accurate.

3. Sealing Test:

Close the valve and observe whether there is any leakage at the connection point between the valve and the pipeline. If leakage is detected, promptly investigate the cause and take appropriate remedial measures.

4. Functional Testing:

On the basis of ensuring the good sealing performance of the valve, conduct functional tests. According to the process flow of the system, simulate the actual operating conditions, and test whether the opening and closing performance, adjustment performance, etc. of the valve meet the requirements.

VI. Recording and Archiving

Record maintenance data:

During the maintenance process, detailed records of maintenance data should be kept, including the results of fault diagnosis, maintenance methods, and replaced components, etc. These data are of great significance for subsequent fault investigation and maintenance.

2. Archiving and Maintenance Reports:

After the maintenance is completed, a maintenance report should be compiled and submitted to the user unit for archiving. The maintenance report should include information such as the maintenance process, replaced components, and test results.

VII. Important Notes

Valves that need to be maintained should be marked with labels, indicating the maintenance number, working pressure, working temperature and medium.

2. Disassembly and assembly should be carried out in accordance with the process procedures. Special tools and fixtures should be used. Forced disassembly is strictly prohibited.

3. The disassembled valve components should be stored separately. Those with specific directions and positions should be checked or marked accordingly.

4. The cleaning and descaling should be thorough to ensure that there are no impurities or dirt inside the valve.

5. During the assembly process, ensure that all components are installed correctly and connected tightly without any leakage. Through the above steps, the smooth progress of the valve maintenance work can be guaranteed, and the valve can be restored to its normal operating condition.
